Ionospheric attenuation
Web18 mrt. 2013 · [1] Accurate models of trans-ionospheric propagation are needed to assess the role of Earth-originating very low frequency (VLF) electromagnetic waves in radiation belt dynamics. Recent studies have called the relatively crude early trans-ionospheric models into question, finding that they underestimate the attenuation by 20–100 dB. Ionospheric absorption (or ISAB) is the scientific name for absorption occurring as a result of the interaction between various types of electromagnetic waves and the free electrons in the ionosphere, which can interfere with radio transmissions. Meer weergeven Ionosphere absorption is of critical importance when radio networks, telecommunication systems or interlinked radio systems are being planned, particularly when trying to determine propagation Meer weergeven • Radio horizon • Sudden Ionospheric Disturbance Meer weergeven ISAB is only a factor in the period of the day where radio signals travel through the portion of the ionosphere facing the sun. The solar wind and radiation cause the ionosphere to become charged with electrons in the first place. At night, the atmosphere … Meer weergeven

Webtrons and ions of the ionosphere, resulting in the oscillation of the interacting particles at the same frequency as that of the ra-dio wave. As a result, the radio wave is attenuated when pass-ing through the ionosphere. Attenuation is more in the D region where neutral particle density is more as compared to the upper regions.
